Vintage Style Engagement Rings
Since Prince Charles bought a ring for Princess Diana off the rack, it has become the most in demand gemstone next to a diamond. Her ring was (at that time) worth 65,000. It was one huge sapphire stone surrounded with several smaller white diamonds. This is also the most copied engagement ring in history.
Back in 1923, the Queen Mother got a sapphire ring which she told the whole world about in her one and only interview. According to her, this was her favorite gemstone. However, several year after that, she switched to a large pearl ring also surrounded by diamonds. It looks like one of those beautiful vintage style engagement rings. A lot of people speculate that the ring is homage to Queen Mary who wore a similarly designed engagement ring with the same gemstone until her death.
Queen Elizabeth's engagement ring is my personal favorite not only because her ring was beautiful but also because of the story behind it. It was said that Prince Philip was highly disliked by the royal family not only because he was a foreigner but also because he was poor. At some point, the royal family made public their dislike for him. Prince Philip's mother gave him her tiara which is one of her very few valuable possession. Prince Philip designed the ring and used the gems in the tiara. Of all the vintage style engagement rings, this is my favorite.
The ring was made up of platinum and set with eleven diamonds, a 3 carat solitaire and five smaller stones set on each side. Prince Philip missed in the sizing though. It was too big for the would-be queen so they rushed the resizing to make it in time for the photo shoot.
